Bio:Labels: Woman. Pagan. Liberal. Intellectual. Scholar. College graduate. Daughter. Writer. Bookworm. Gamer. Feminist. Brainiac. Ailurophile. Chocoholic. Diabetic. Geek. Herbalist. Comic book fan. Arachnophobe. Mother. Domestic abuse survivor. Teacher's Pet. Freak. Pantheistic solipsist.

Happy.

Did I forget anything?

I have one husband (Doug), one son (Brandon, 13), two daughters (Sarah, 15, and Ali, 18), five cats (Cara, Wednesday, Houdini, Nicodemus, and Minerva), a dog (Cafall), and a huge garden. I make my own candles and jewelry. I am a passable cook and a patient teacher, an eager student and a loyal friend. I was raised Catholic but have been Pagan since I was 17 years old (or thereabouts).

Twice married, once divorced. Open-minded but not stupid. Flames not welcome, but honest, intelligent discussion is.

As evidenced by even a casual perusal of this journal, I am about as anti-Bush as you can get. I won't flog it around in other forums or on other peoples' journals, but I do post about it here because, after all, this is my journal. I am waiting (probably futilely) for him to go down in the big fat metaphorical flames of impeachment, which I doubt will actually happen, because everyone knows that the people, courts, and Congress of this country only care about impeaching a president if he's had sex with someone who isn't his wife. However, I reserve the right to delete comments here if people start getting abusive to me or other commenters on my f-list. I will support your freedom of speech to the death, but I won't put up with trolls. Fair (and only) warning.

If my username suddenly shows up on your friends list, it generally means I've friended you for one of two reasons: I know you from somewhere else (Yahoo discussion group, Black Bayou, etc.) or I ran across one of your entries while meandering here (pther journals, someone else's friends page) and decided I liked your writing. Sometimes I'll actually ask if I can friend you, but sometimes I don't. However, I'll take you off if you ask me to. :) Also, feel free to friend me back, but no pressure if you don't wanna. If, on the other hand, I notice one day that you've friended me (I hope you'd drop me a line, but it's not necessary), be warned, I counter-friend at the drop of a hat (as soon as I've noticed...some times it takes a while).

Quotes:

Vita sine libris mors est.
Life without books is death.

"The care of human life and happiness, and not their destruction, is the first and only object of good government." --Thomas Jefferson

"Properly read, the Bible is the most potent force for atheism ever conceived." -- Isaac Asimov

"Liberalism is trust of the people tempered by prudence. Conservatism is distrust of the people tempered by fear." -- William E. Gladstone (British Statesman)

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." -- Margaret Mead

"You must be the change you want to see in the world." -- Mahatma Gandhi

"Reasonable men adapt to the world around them; unreasonable men make the world adapt to them. The world is changed by unreasonable men." -- Edwin L. Cole

"My country, right or wrong; if right, to be kept right; and if wrong, to be set right." -- Sen. Carl Schurz

The last time we mixed religion and politics, people got burned at the stake. (author unknown)

As long as people believe in absurdities, they will continue to commit atrocities. - Voltaire

The complaints of the privileged are too often confused with the voice of the masses. - John Kenneth Galbraith

The propagandist's purpose is to make one set of people forget that certain other sets of people are human. - Aldous Huxley (or George Orwell, I've seen it attributed to both)

The most violent element in society is ignorance. - Emma Goldman

A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny! - Thomas Jefferson

All governments need enemies. How else to justify their existence? - Edward Abbey

All war is based on deception. - Sun Tzu

I have been thinking that I would make a proposition to my Republican friends... that if they will stop telling lies about the Democrats, we will stop telling the truth about them. - Adlai Stevenson

Stripped of ethical rationalizations and philosophical pretensions, a crime is anything that a group in power chooses to prohibit. - Freda Adler

Although he's regularly asked to do so, God does not take sides in American politics. - George J. Mitchell

In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act. - George Orwell

The two greatest obstacles to democracy in the United States are, first, the widespread delusion among the poor that we have a democracy, and second, the chronic terror among the rich, lest we get it. - Edward Dowling

Ninety-eight percent of the adults in this country are decent, hardworking, honest Americans. It's the other lousy two percent that get all the publicity. But then, we elected them. - Lily Tomlin.

The people of this country, not special interest big money, should be the source of all political power. - Paul Wellstone

When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying the cross. - Sinclair Lewis

I am not an advocate for frequent changes in laws and Constitutions. But laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths discovered and manners and opinions change, with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also to keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors. - Thomas Jefferson (applies perfectly to the Supreme Court question of whether the Constitution is a living document or not)
